The annual Valentines party at the library was held Wednesday, Feb 11. Jean Borgeson reports the following: “Being a board member and feeling somewhat guilty that I hadn’t done much for a while, I decided I could be “in charge” of the activities. The first thing I did was go upstairs and look in a corner that contained leftover stuff from every other party I had been a part of when I was the librarian those many years ago. I couldn’t believe what I had in that stash of stuff. There were enough blank cards and envelopes so the kids could make as many cards as they wanted! They used their skills at drawing, stamping, and they had plenty of stickers and letters for decorating (all without glue and glitter, I might add). Of course, they frosted and sprinkled Valentine cookies. They were so organized and serious about what they were creating and it was fun to watch them. Even the older boys, who elected not to make cards, did frost and eat their cookies! I think what impressed me the most was how helpful they were when it was time to clean up. Board member Nancy Burrow and librarian Sarah Kilgore helped with the party, also.”
News in and around Rippey: David and Emily Weaver hosted a birthday party for their daughter Ada, who turned 3 on Feb. 8. It was a Mickey Mouse theme, Ada’s current favorite cartoon character. Lunch and birthday cupcakes were served to grandparents Mike and Pam Knott of Muscatine, Uncle and Aunt Ike and Erica and cousin Henry of Coralville, Aunt Theresa, and cousins Nathan and Lauryn of Sioux City, and grandparents Gary and Mary Weaver of Rippey.
The Rippey folks were resting up a bit after the BRR guests last week. All who participated agreed it was a long day, but an enjoyable one. One Lions Club member is already planning on making more mashed potatoes for next year’s crowd!
